My day started pretty awesome…had breakfast with this girl and her cutie pie Then went to good old Tar`get to shop… We are having our homecoming celebration for the hubs’ military unit. Yes they have been home for three months, yes it is severely overdue! It continued on when I found an awesome sale at Banana…

I think this could quite possibly be the most comfortable shirt ever. Super cute too!

So after reviewing my workouts for the month of November…The red days are the no run days…I could tell I was really sick…and maybe a little bit lazy… SO December has to be better… Hopefully this is the only time I get sick this year!!!!

Lost fawns, enchiladas, and left overs

What a holiday!!!! Besides being the sicky on the treadmill, the stomach flu made its appearance. Yay! Super awesome!!! I am starting to feel better, thank goodness!!! So before my illnesses, I went hunting with the hubs. Of course there is a hilarious story that goes along with that!!!

First time out…There we are sitting in the condo, three deer walk into the shooting lanes… I think “ok there are 3 of them, which one is the biggest?” Adam says “OK here comes a mom and her twins” GREAT JUST GREAT, CAN”T SHOOT NOW! The deer wander away….

Adam: Why didn’t you shoot?

Me: I was fine until you said “a mom and her twins” I see two babies lost in the woods in the dead of winter without a mom, starving and can’t find food.

Adam: That’s great, well, I see meatloaf, enchiladas, and burgers…shoot next time.

Second time out… A buck walks into the shooting lane. Adam has been watching it and he tells me to raise my gun. I line up the iron sight with the shoulder and pull the trigger… Yep closed my eyes. The buck just stands there. WTH? So I rack another in the chamber and line it up again. My heart is racing, I am shaking and I can’t focus. Apparently I have “buck fever” I pull the trigger again. The stupid deer just stands there and looks around. Adam hands me his rifle, tells me how to sight in the deer in the scope, I do this, and I started thinking “this buck is standing out there after two shots, looking at me and saying, this lady couldn’t hit the side of a barn…hahaha….” I pulled the trigger and after a second the buck took off. I started balling. uncontrollably balling.

Adam (while he is laughing) “Why are you crying?”

Me: “I think I killed something.” still balling uncontrollably…..

So needless to say, no blood spatter, no deer, no shot.  We did find one of the bullets in the tree that was behind the deer. At least I hot something! Maybe I am not cut out to be a hunter…. There is always next year!

Are you sick of Turkey yet? Well here is another recipe for leftover turkey!!!

2 garlic cloves

1/2 medium onion

1/2 pound mini bella mushrooms

olive oil

shredded turkey

truffle salt

Sautee garlic and onion in olive oil until transluscent

Add mushrooms and sautee until the mushrooms are tender

Add the shredded Turkey, pepper, and truffle salt to taste. 

I added it to a bed of mixed baby romaine and sprinkled it with a little Parmesan cheese.

For dessert, I have my favorite chocolate bar… Holy Yum BATMAN!!!!

A sicky on a treadmill

Some how I got sick… not sure how… considering I have been on 4 airplanes, around numerous kiddos, sleeping less than 7 hours a night, and dealing with the normal everyday holiday stress… I have no clue how I got sick. So to the treadmill it is. I can’t run outside with a cold, the cold air kills me, yes I am a wimp. I usually watch the ABC player on my iphone when I use the treadmill. It could not connect to the server. By default I had to listen to music… then this  happened…I have to entertain myself somehow! Then I looked behind me at my poor running buddies, who in the end are so depressed and rejected they don’t know what to do with themselves…oh wait they are enjoying every minute of their nap…

Girls Weekend part Deux… Hallelujah!!!!!!!!!

Leelanau Penisula was not quite what I was expecting. The views we saw were a little run down, rude people, and less than mediocre wineries. All that aside, we had to try the new winery, Blustone

Once one the property, WOW! It was gorgeous. Rolling hills with grapes vines running all over, yeah…. When we finally got up to the tasting room, I thought another big wow…

The tasting room is gorgeous. When you walk in there is a modern gas fireplace and floor to ceiling windows all over looking out over the vineyards. I was wow’d… until they handed me the tasting glass. Not only was it dirty, but it was all scratched. You would think that a brand new winery would have brand new glasses. The last wine we tried was a cherry port… then the owner whipped out the dark chocolate…(the Hallelujah chorus)

It was really good. So then we went to L. Mawby…ehhh I perfer drinking their wines at the Signature Room in the John Hancock building as opposed to their tasting room (nothing to get excited about). I know their sparkling wine is good though. So after a mediocre let down on Leelanua, we serveyed our wine stash…and figured it was time to eat. We at North Peak, super yummy!!! We did some shopping downtown Traverse City, and then checked into out hotel room. We couldnt decide where we wanted to go for dinner. We were all that hungry and we noticed a Fro-yo shop when we were walking…SugarKissed

It is so bright and cheery in there…and the yogurt was AMAZING!!!! Way to go girls!!!


So after a fun filled day we hit the hay. The following day we did ore shopping and headed home…What a fabulous girls weekend!!!

Girls weekend…part one

Up to Traverse City we go! Incase you haven’t noticed… I LOVE TRAVERSE CITY. We had to do a little research to find out which wineries opened at 1030…So we ended up at Bowers Harbor, greeted by Brix.

20121117-214918.jpg we headed up to 2 Lads…yeah they were decorated for Christmas …Yay!!! This place has the most amazing views from their tasting room. The staff is super nice and they are just awesome.

20121117-220728.jpg this was only out third winery…um yeah … no explanation necessary. Chateau Chantal makes the only Malbec in Michigan. Their grapes are grown in the Malbec region of Argentina, in a vineyard owned by Chatuea Chantal. It is phenomenal.

Two Very Happy Girls!

Next we headed to the Leelanau Peninsula. We have never gone tasting on this pennisula so we thought we would try it… Picture- Napa vs. Sonoma.

Part 2 girls weekend tomorrow.. My gingerbread house for the Festival of Trees and Gingerbread Village at the Muskegon Museum of Art is calling my name! If you are in the area, come see what it is all about starting on Friday!!!

Mexican food, Pizza, a 90’s dance party, and a frigid run…now that is a party.

Home from out west… oh it was a fun trip though!!! From shopping at Sierra Trading Post, to eat yummy Mexican food and Margaritas, to dance parties to the best of the 90’s with my sister in law and nephews, to a run at 6000+ feet, temperature in the 20’s and winds howling to 30 mph…. It was grand!

If you have never heard of Sierra Trading post… check out their website…I LOVE THEM.  (And I love this girl right here!)There is an actual store front in WY. After visiting STP, we went for Mexican food…YUMMO… Sorry no pictures of the dance party…it was a no picture zone. I can assure you however, a fun time was had by all!!!

So the running part… well my SIL made these super awesome no bake cookies… that disappeared rather fast. (I think it was either the dog or the hubbies) So we thought it would be a grand idea to run off some cookies… HAHAHA When you have been training at sea level and you try to run at 6,000+ feet, it sucks. Then you throw in super cold temps and high winds and you feel like you are going to die. NO JOKE. So after our run we rewarded ourselves with no bake cookies!!! Completely 100% justifiable! 

Last night we had pizza with friends we haven’t seen in FOREVER… fun times all around especially with the girls… Who wouldn’t have fun with J.Lohr???!! Thanks for the yummy pizza guys!!!!

Unfortunently, long weekends out west are never long enough! On our way back to MI, we were upgraded to first class… I am so spoiled… We had wine pre-flight, appetizers, main course, and dessert, and then wine during flight.  I LOVE the view of my hometown any time of day!    


So long Colorado… see you in 80 days!


Peanut Butter/ Butterscotch no Bake cookies

2 cups sugar

1/4 cup margarine

1/2 cup milk

1 cup peanut butter

1 teaspoon vanilla

1/4 cup butterscotch chips

3 cups rolled oats (old fashioned)

In a large pan, mix sugar, margarine, and milk;  bring to a full, rolling boil over med heat. 

Boil for one minute, stirring constantly.

Remove from heat and stir in peanut butter, butterscotch chips and vanilla, stirring until peanut butter and chips are melted; stir in oats.

Working quickly, drop by spoonfuls onto waxed paper.

Store cookies in the fridge….TRUST ME, you will thank me!!!!

Figs, potato chip gouda, and airline wine…so long friend

A furry friend crossed the rainbow bridge on Thursday.

Switching to happier times and a reason to eat cheese and drink wine ( like I need one)… Headed out west…Starbucks and Jamba Juice at O’hare!

20121111-193913.jpg I have been eye-ing these Oakley sunglasses for the last month… They have anti slip so you can wear them running… So I tried them I at the airport kiosk…. I am in love!!! And the hubs loved them!

20121111-194241.jpg (Santa make another note) So on the flight to Denver, I packed figs, dates, and potato chip Gouda. If you have a chance to try that cheese, do it!!! So when the beverage cart came around I asked for the red… Yum a cab Shiraz blend… And it was FREE!!!!

Are you reading Santa?

Did my 3 uneventful, miles this morning, stopped by the Cheese Lady and got some yummies for the plane ride (She is having her holiday open house… go sample some amazing goodies!!!)went to work, and made a fabulous dinner…whew what a day…

 Just had to add a picture of my new hat, which I love…totally random.

Lately I have been experiencing way too much lactic acid build up in my legs. Can’t figure out why so I have been keeping track of what i have been eating/drinking in my nifty dollar store journal only a buck… no, it does not have the motivational sayings and the totally awesome layout of this one from Believe(which I hoping Santa will bring it for me…hint hint Santa) but, hey, the dollar store one was only $1 so no complaining here. So ATS told me I need to lay off the coffee…well that is not going to happen since I am totally addicted. So I thought I would give it a shot anyways. Instead of a pot of coffee this morning (I told you I was addicted, I have a problem… it just taste so good) I only had one cup before my run (I had the rest afterwards…HA) and I had two pieces of toast before I headed out the door… (magical chimes)  It worked…something worked!!!! No lactic acid build up on today’s run! Let’s see if tomorrow’s run proves the same.

Since we are going on vacation, we have zero food, so I threw something together that I thought would sound good…well it tasted even better! I am not sure what to call it so we will call it the awesome mushroom bean concoction. To top off the awesomeness, I found a bottle of wine in the wine rack that was the perfect accompliment…  (Holy Yellow Photo Batman…Kim, I need your help!)

Awesome Mushroom Bean concoction

1 medium shallot

2 cloves of garlic

1 c chopped mushrooms

1/2 cup white wine, I used Traminette

1 can navy beans

1 cup chopped chicken

olive oil

Tuscan seasoning from Penzy’s


Sautee the garlic and shallots in olive oil until tender. Add the mushrooms, white wine, Tuscan seasoning, a dash of salt, and a little more olive oil. Sautee until the mushrooms are tender. You may need to add more white wine. After rinsing the navy bean in cool water, add them to the mixture.

In a separate pan, add the chicken, tuscan sunset seasoning and a little live oil. Cook chicken until done.

Add chicken to mushroom mixture and simmer for 10  minutes, stirring constantly.

Yum… enjoy folks!!

It is deer season…almost

Today was a rest day… My quads were sore from my long run yesterday, so I walk the dogs for 3 miles. There were very happy!

So opening day deer season is a week from tomorrow. Since we live in Michigan, there are essential duties that need to be performed to prepare. We trimmed the shooting lanes tonight. Well, I supervised, as always, and ATS and his dad used the chainsaws.  What a stud!

Every so often we had to go up into the hunting condo to make sure all the lanes were clear. (and take a picture) This will be our next home… It is quite spacious and luxurious.

Quite a few people do not like the way venison tastes. I agree, you hunt on state land in the swamps, the meat does taste kinda yucky. Where ATS hunts is private land, and it is surrounded by row crops. The deer are eating soy beans, corn, and apples. There are no swamp hangers around here!!! This means the meat tastes like chicken…LOL no just kidding. It does taste a lot like beef. It is a tough call when it comes to favorite venison recipes…either my venison chili or ATS’s enchiladas. So since I am not allowed to write down ATS’s recipe I will go with my venison chili!!!

Venison Chili— Original recipe is a Rachel Ray recipe, but I severely modified it.  (this is really good vegetarian if you take out the venison)

  • 2 pounds ground venison
  • 2 tablespoons McCormick’s Montreal Steak Seasoning
  • ½ cup baby Portobello mushrooms, chopped
  • ½ cup shiitake mushroom caps, sliced
  • ½ cup white mushrooms
  • 1 medium yellow onion chopped
  • 3 ribs celery, chopped
  • 1 large red bell pepper, seeded and chopped
  • 1 large green pepper, seeded and chopped
  • 6 cloves garlic, chopped
  • 2 medium shallots
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 tablespoon ground chipotle chili powder
  • 1 tablespoon ground cumin
  • 1 bottle Stella Artois / New Belgium 1554 is amazing too
  • 1 (15 ounce) can black beans, drained
  • 1 (15 ounce) can crushed tomatoes
  • 2 to 3 tablespoons fresh thyme leaves

Brown the meat in a large pot. Season it with grill seasoning and sear it up, browning and crumbling it, for 3 to 5 minutes. Transfer meat to a plate and return pot to stove. Reduce heat to medium- high and add some extra-virgin olive oil. Add the garlic and shallots.  Add the mushrooms and begin to brown them before adding the other veggies. After 2 or 3 minutes the mushrooms will begin to shirk and soften. Push the mushrooms off to one side of the pot and add all the remaining veggies to the opposite side of the pot surface. Once the onions, celery, and peppers have been working for a few minutes as well, mix the veggies with the mushrooms. Add the meat back, season with Worcestershire sauce, chipotle powder and cumin. Add in beer to deglaze the pot, scraping up all the pan drippings. Reduce the beer by half, about 2 minutes. Add the black beans, tomatoes, and thyme to chili and simmer 10 minutes for flavors to combine. If chili is too thick, add more beer, to thin keep cooking it! Taste to adjust seasonings. Top with some cheddar cheese.

Eat it with some yummy homemade corn bread and it is delish! (I will have to get Eric’s cornbread recipe for you all!!!)

I am blogging early because there has been so much that has gone on this morning already!!!! LADIES GO VOTE!!!! There have been so many that have fought for your right and you need to exercise it.  So I ran to my polling station, and when I walked in I was greet by the happiest upbeat African American woman ever( I am guessing about 60years old)… YOU GO GIRL!!! I think it is a requirement though, that if you are an official at the polling hall you have to be somber and crabby. I was standing in line and it was finally my turn to hand over my license and the guy says monotone, “Id please” when I already had it out in front of him. He scanned my ID then I started to put it in my pocket and the lady next to him raised her voice and said “oh no maam, you need that out don’t but that away.” Whoa sorry… I did my thing, put my ballot in the machine, and said have a nice day to the older woman standing next to the machine…not a smile or even a moan…all right then. So I walked past the super duper happy, awesome, African American woman and said “you need some music in here”… She said something that made my entire day… “We need some Gangnam style”  and she did part of the dance….OH.MY.GOD….you rock!  Not only was she happy, but she did the Gangnam dance…HOLLA!!!!! I so wanted to take a picture with her, but I thought I might get yelled at by the people…so no pic  😦

I then continued on with my run and was thinking about the Gazelle Girl Half marathon on April 13 in Grand Rapids. It is to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Title IX that made made discrimination between men’s and women’s educational programs illegal. Sports would not be what it is today without Title IX It is an all women’s marathon… Registration for the race opens 12/1/12. They are still finalizing some details but if you want more information check out the website. They are capping the race at 2,000 so sign up early!!!
